On the 25th of April this year, over 300 women gathered at The Grange Tower Bridge in London to celebrate the annual European Women in Construction and Engineering Awards (WICE). Hosted and directed by Afi Ofori, the managing director at Zars Media, this year’s WICE summit was perhaps the best one yet with 208 finalists, 69 judges and 18 speakers celebrating its 5th year as the most prestigious event honouring the achievements of women in these sectors.
Carol Massay, CEO here at EasyBuild was delighted to be asked to attend and be a guest speaker at the WICE 2019 awards on the Technology in Construction panel.
Carol was then invited to present the “Best Woman Consultant of the Year” at the Awards Dinner on 21st May in London, where all other winners were announced.
Carol Massay and Roni Savage, Founder of Jomas Associates and 2019 Winner of Best Woman Consultant
Congratulations to all the winners! Awards that were presented included, Surveyors, Electrical & Mechanical Engineers, Youngest Women in Construction, Consultants, Business Developers and more all within the thriving construction and engineering industries.
The judging panels were acquired from a spectrum of different industries and expertise. Caroline Buckingham, vice president at the Royal Institute of British Architects. Sarah Davidson, professor at Nottingham University. Slyvia Churba, director at Churba Engineering. Roberta Downey, partner at Hogan Lovells International law practice, just to name a few of the 69 in attendance.
Women represent just 11% of the construction workforce in the UK and the WICE awards plays an important role in engaging more females to work in the industry by providing a platform for those who work within engineering and construction and to share their expertise and act as role models to those considering working in these roles. Not to mention, it is important to encourage companies to employ and train women to work in the construction and engineering industries and destroy the stigma that women can’t do the same jobs as men.
